We heard from two districts—Brandon Valley School District (South Dakota) and Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (California)— about their plans for feeding kids during the 2020-2021 school year.

Brandon Valley School District started their school year on August 19th. Parents were given the choice between traditional learning and distance learning for the first semester. Across 7 schools, Brandon Valley School District has a total student enrollment of 4,706 of which 390 students have opted for 100% distance learning. The remainder of students are present for full-time in-person learning. We heard from Gay Anderson, Child Nutrition Director.

Vaughn Next Century Learning Center started their school year on August 5th with 100% distance learning. Vaughn is a large urban public school within Los Angeles Unified School District with over 25 years of experience as an independent charter school. Vaughn operates five contiguous campuses under one charter and serves 3,207 students (K-12). We heard from Frances Montoya, Director of Food Service.
