Summer Site Visit Toolkit
Free summer meals make sure kids are able to eat healthy meals during summer while also helping low-income families save money and stretch their summer food budgets. However, as many as 6 out of 7 of the kids who need these meals aren’t getting them. Many families aren’t aware of the program and, even when they are, it can be challenging for kids to access the sites. The No Kid Hungry campaign and its local partners are breaking down barriers and making sure more children get the healthy food they need.
Making these programs as strong and effective as they can be requires elected officials from all levels of government to understand the value of these programs to their communities and the barriers that exist in connecting kids in need with a healthy meal. As elected officials return home during the summer months, a visit to a local summer meals site can help reinforce the importance of these programs and that all of their constituents have access to meals in the summertime.
The No Kid Hungry campaign as prepared a toolkit to help your organization facilitate these events. This toolkit provides planning timelines, template communication and publicity materials, and tips for executing a successful event highlighting the importance of summer meals to local influencers. Please let us know if there is additional information we can provide throughout the summer months.
